The A300-UCM continuously monitors for unintended car movement (UCM) as defined by ASME A17.1 Section 1.3. Any movement caused by a failure in the driving machine motor, brake, shafts, gearing, control system, or other critical components can create serious passenger safety risks.

The A300-UCM meets the requirements of ASME A17.1 Section 2.19.2 and NYC Building Code Appendix K 3.8.4.1, providing a proactive, reliable solution for both new installations and retrofit projects. Unlike dual plunger brakes, which add redundancy but do not monitor for movement, the A300-UCM actively detects unintended motion and responds immediately for greater safety.

When unintended car movement is detected, the A300-UCM immediately triggers the emergency brake to stop the elevator and hold it in place until the brake is reset. This prevents uncontrolled movement and reduces the risk of passenger injury.
